During the summer months Byron Community Ministries hosted two literacy clubs, one at Holiday Estates Mobile Home Park on 68th St. and another at Prescott Mobile Village on Division Ave. The clubs offered marvelous opportunities for us to get to know the children and sometimes, their parents. Obviously, good reading skills are essential to academic success. We want to be a part of boosting the children’s reading level, make quality reading materials available, keep students engaged with cognitive activities in the summer and create positive relationships.
We had two successful clubs and we’d like to see this duplicated at several of the other Byron area mobile home neighborhoods. We single the mobile home parks out only because so many of the parks have club houses, ideal settings for a meeting place and too, a great number of students can more easily be reached at these locations.
Might your small group, Adult Fellowship class or someone you know who cares about children, who grasps the importance of improving reading skills and one who can make a consistent commitment throughout the summer, be interested in linking with Byron Community Ministries as we unfold this fun filled program next summer? We’re excited! We see the unlimited potential it offers in long lasting ways–life changing ways. We invite you to share this information, to give it prayerful thought, to join us as we continue to serve our Byron Community.
