Each December Byron Community Ministries mails out our Year End Gift request letter. This year was no different, other than the format and appearance of the letter was vastly different.
Over and above the actual appearance of our letter however, is the actual appearance and performance of our organization. We have changed over the past several years and come the middle of January, 2016, we will most likely incorporate still more changes. The changes are not “by accident” or mere happenstance. The changes are intentional and purposeful.
The Johnson Center, a service provided through Grand Valley State University, conducted a Byron Center community wide survey. The survey results will be analyzed and shared with Byron Ministries, our supporting churches and several other Byron Center organizations. The Byron Ministries’ Board will prayerfully consider the future direction of our outreach services as a direct result of the survey information. We’ll assess our resources (talent, time, finances, space, Etc.) to determine how we can better serve our community.
Traditionally BCM has served those who struggle financially. Though we continue to meet the varied needs in this area, we realize that individuals and families who are financially stable have multiple needs, too. What are the needs? How can we minister to them? What are we lacking in our community to meet the needs? Yes, pointed and important questions to ask– and address. We recognize mental health and counseling services as a priority, as is establishing positive relationships with our youth, encouraging the youth to connect with a local church, to serve others, to succeed academically.
We have started a literacy TV show which airs on BCTV and YouTube. The show is called Book It! We began literacy clubs in a couple of the local mobile home parks. We have a growing group that meets once a month for our local widows called, Treasured Singles. Its a marvelous group of ladies! Still more is happening and still more will be developing at Byron Ministries.
Stay tuned to BCM in 2016 because its going to be meaningful and positive! Join us as we serve our neighborhood! Oh, and though it’s late December as this post is written, its not too late to mail in your Year End Gift to Byron Ministries! Be a part of something wonderful in Byron Center! (P.O.
